Mulholland Drive is brilliant too.

There are few directors who can carve out a unique style without becoming stuck in a rut: Lynch, Malick, Mann are the ones that come to mind,

(I'm glad you found my blog of interest)Stephenhttp://checkingonmysausages.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-51487232703996519612010-01-01T13:35:33.690-08:002010-01-01T13:35:33.690-08:00Senor,

I agree that this experience was a good omen for me- I had never met a filmmaker before in my life, so now I can stop being jealous of those people who say, "I just met Quentin Tarantino!" lol

I would love to see all of you once you guys return from Rolla. Are Rory and Tony coming home as well? Stop by AMC sometime!

Also, just a recommendation: if you're curious to see any of David Lynch's films I recommend Blue Velvet (1986) for any beginner. It's a great mystery film with Kyle Machlachlan as a teenage kid who finds a human ear in a field and then gets involved in a mob murder mystery; Dennis Hooper plays this crazed kingpin who inhales through a gas mask. I know you loved Scorsese's The Departed so I think you'd like this one as well.

After that, there's also his version of The Elephant Man (1980) with Anthony Hopkins; or his new film, Mulholland Drive (2001) with Naomi Watts, which doesn't make ANY sense but is awesome purely because of that. :)Adam Zanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14524618281515322239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-57116742943430649682009-12-11T08:14:25.551-08:002009-12-11T08:14:25.551-08:00Sorry for the late reply, but better late than nev...Sorry for the late reply, but better late than never I guess. (I just now saw this on my Google Reader feed).

I saw the video before when you posted it on facebook. From the way you told the full story it seems more like fate than mere luck that you got to meet such a legendary filmmaker, given your level of ambition and dedication to cinema. I'm very proud of you for that. I'm sure things will only get better for you from here as long as you keep moving along.

Kudos to you, and good luck! Hopefully I'll get to see you again when I come home for winter break.ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03002100436217535639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-11650129987919414452009-11-30T21:13:01.074-08:002009-11-30T21:13:01.074-08:00Thank you for dropping by, Jesse!

Were you there on Friday night (November 14) in the dining room when a visitor asked if they had a Psychology department and he was told, "No." I was dying laughing!Adam Zanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14524618281515322239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-18012615744693473852009-11-30T08:27:06.020-08:002009-11-30T08:27:06.020-08:00Hey Adam,

I've always been practicing what I might say to any cinematic legend and it is some chore. The thing which Lynch is that I wanted to try to steer clear of asking him any questions that might bully him; one of my biggest temptations was to ask him about how he's been coping after all that criticism against him for signing the Roman Polanski petition. But I finally elected not to go there, lol.

You've met Richard Sherman!?? Awesome! The guy's composed so many wonderful tunes. Pooh, Mary Poppins, etc. If I had met him, I might have been a troll about it and ask him, "Why'd you compose those yucky songs for Chitty Chitty Band Bang. Hehe...

Craig, thanks for the congratulations. If you guys are interested, somebody posted a video on YouTube which shows footage of me sitting next to Lynch and Donovan in the audience at the 0:50 second mark and at the 1:40 second mark:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ZHkPswa1cAdam Zanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14524618281515322239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-11273885969774015832009-11-28T11:58:27.153-08:002009-11-28T11:58:27.153-08:00Sounds like an inspirational experience, Adam. In each of the readings and book signings I've been too, I inevitably run up against the same problem: what can I say that's actually interesting and won't make me seem like an idiot, or just like every other fan he/she meets.

I think the best I ever managed it was when I met Richard Sherman. Like Lynch in your case, he was incredibly easygoing and helped to put me at ease.

You are such a lucky guy. You were within the aura of the one that created "Mulholland Dr." Wow.Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04082737604796435170noreply@blogger.com
