Of his silent films, I can at least say that I'm a fan of The Lodger, but this film -- despite its minor curiosities -- doesn't hold a candle to that one.Adam Zanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14524618281515322239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8545661733980837263.post-91595258620876335892012-05-26T21:22:52.572-07:002012-05-26T21:22:52.572-07:00"I’ve now watched The Ring (not to be confuse..."I’ve now watched The Ring (not to be confused with the overrated Gore Verbinski/Naomi Watts horror movie) in its entirety, and my feelings about it are… mixed. From where I stand, it’s good but minor Hitchcock, with some rather lame acting, an even lamer storyline and a punishingly boring first half, justified only by a second half that, surprisingly, offers a good deal of legitimately exciting cinema."

Absolutely. You have framed the film's artistic worth or lack thereof in this telling paragraph. This can also be applied to a number of Hitch's early works, which invariably suffer from the same problems. From BLACKMAIL forward, the uneven qualities were replaced by confidence and full maturation of the master's skills.

Comprehensive piece here Adam!Sam Julianonoreply@blogger.com
